Robotic Surgery for Pelvi-Ureteric Obstruction of the Kidney (PUJ obstruction)

Pelvi-ureteric obstruction (UPJ obstruction) or Uretero-pelvic Junction Obstruction (UPJ obstruction) of the kidney is a blockage of the ureter of the kidney where it joins the pelvis of the kidney.

This is corrected by a surgical procedure called a pyeloplasty. The blocked segment of the ureter is removed, and the ureter sewn back (anastomosed) onto the pelvis of the kidney.

This is best carried out as a Robotic Pyeloplasty as the Robot helps the surgeon to do the very fine stitching necessary to achieve a precision join of the pelvis to the ureter.
